This is how we built a fun summer fort or "tree house" in 1 hour for under $10.00!
We have a friend who works for the electric company so we scored the wooden cable spool for free. Our only purchases were two 2x4 boards and a box of screws.
We have a friend who works for the electric company so we scored the wooden cable spool for free. Our only purchases were two 2x4 boards and a box of screws.
First, we found the perfect spool and the perfect tree!
Next, we unbolted the spool (this took both mommy & daddy).
After that, daddy measured, marked, and cut the spool to fit into the tree. He used a level and added screws as needed to stabilize.
Lastly, we used the 2x4s to make the ladder. We used the middle boards from the spool to make the rungs for the ladder. We probably would have made the ladder first but daddy is 6'4" so he had no trouble reaching up into the tree!
